Rescuers have recovered the bodies of those who died after a bus fell from a bridge and crashed into a river on Christmas Eve, according to Spanish authorities.

They said six passengers died and the driver and another passenger were injured in the accident in Galicia in northwestern Spain.

The blue roof of the half-submerged bus could be seen in the Lerez river, about 30 metres (100ft) below the bridge.

A motorist who saw the broken railing on the bridge as he drove by in heavy rain had alerted emergency services.

The Spanish Guardia Civil said a total of eight people were on the bus.

The two survivors were rescued on Saturday night and taken to hospitals.
