The death of a 20-year-old woman in India who was dragged for miles after being hit by a car has led to outcry and protests.
The woman was riding a scooter when the collision happened on New Year’s Day in west Delhi.
Her body was later found without clothes on and with severe injuries after being dragged for many miles, local media report.
Police said the five occupants of the car, who had been going out for night snacks, have been arrested.
They have reportedly claimed that they did not realise the gruesome reality of what had happened after the collision.
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal called for “exemplary action” to be taken against those responsible with “no leniency”.
The woman’s mother has called for a full investigation and justice for her daughter.
Home Minister Amit Shah, amid massive protests by locals, has directed Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora to conduct a thorough inquiry in the case.
