A man arrested in connection with a claim of responsibility by the New IRA over the shooting of senior PSNI detective John Caldwell has been released.
He had been detained in Londonderry on Saturday under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000 and was questioned at Musgrave Serious Crime Suite.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “A 23-year-old man arrested in connection with the claim of responsibility made following the attempted murder of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell has been released following questioning. The investigation continues.”
Last month, a typed message was posted on a wall purportedly from the New IRA, claiming responsibility for Mr Caldwell’s attempted murder.
Police said the New IRA is the main line of inquiry in the investigation.
Mr Caldwell was shot on 22 February after coaching a football training session at a sports complex in Omagh.
He was shot in front of his young son as he put footballs into the boot of his car, and he remains critically ill in hospital.
