Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney say they are “so grateful” after their Welcome To Wrexham documentary about buying the football club secured six Emmy nominations.

The Disney+ show follows the trials and tribulations of Wrexham AFC as they seek promotion to the English Football League, which they secured earlier this year after a 15-year wait.

Responding to the news of the nominations on Twitter, Reynolds said he “can’t wait for season two”, which is expected to be released later in the year.

In a post shared by the pair, McElhenney and Reynolds, who bought the North Wales club in 2020, said: “The story of Wrexham has resonated with millions of people because you don’t have to be Welsh or a football fan to be moved by this town.

“We are so grateful for today’s six Emmy nominations and are continuously honoured the people of Wrexham allow us to tell their tale.”
