A pedestrian who died after he was hit by a car in Fife has been named by police as officers continue to search for the vehicle.
Stephen Davis, 46, was crossing Cowdenbeath’s High Street when he was struck by a grey Audi at around 8.30pm last Thursday.
Emergency services attended, but Mr Davis was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement released through Police Scotland, his family said: “We are devastated by the loss of Stephen and the circumstances and timing that led to his death while he was still grieving the loss of his long-term partner who passed away in July.
“We are still unable to comprehend the nature of his passing.
“Stephen was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend. Stephen and his partner also worked together to make Cowdenbeath Market Garden a real community project. He will be deeply missed by us all.”
Mr Davis’ family thanked all those who tried to assist at the scene, the witnesses who have come forward with information, and Police Scotland.
A 32-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident, while the Audi is yet to be traced.
Darren McPhee appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Monday.
He has been accused of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop and give his details, and failing to report the alleged incident.
McPhee, of Cowdenbeath, made no plea to the charges.
He was committed for further examination and remanded in custody, and is due back in the dock within the next week.

Police Scotland said enquiries are ongoing to trace the vehicle involved, which is believed to be a grey Audi SQ5.
The car was driven in the direction of Perth Road immediately after the collision and officers believe it then headed towards northeast Fife.
A force spokesperson said: “Officers would urge anyone who has seen a similar vehicle parked in an unfamiliar place or who has any other information about the vehicle to get in touch.”
