Weather in pictures: Snow starts to settle in UK as German city faces travel chaos

Published

The UK’s frosty start to December continues with a fresh amber snow warning in place for parts of northwest England – as a winter storm in southern Germany has grounded flights in Munich.

The UK’s weather warning covers the coastal area of west Cumbria, and central and western parts of the Lake District and falls within a wider area already covered by a yellow warning stretching from Lancaster to the Scottish coast south of Dumfries.

But much of the UK is feeling the big chill, with a widespread risk of freezing fog, icy stretches and further wintry showers of rain, hail, sleet and snow in northern regions.

Meanwhile, heavy snowfall has reached parts of Germany, with Munich reaching temperatures as low as -4C, Stuttgart -3, and Berlin -2C, according to the Met Office.
