Fashionistas, film and TV stars hit the front row in Manchester as Chanel turned part of the city into a catwalk for a star-studded show.

Hollywood star Kristen Stewart, actor Hugh Grant and his wife Anna Elisabet Eberstein, and model and presenter Alexa Chung were among the stars pictured at the Chanel Metiers d’Art show on Thursday.

Actress Jenna Coleman, British rappers Bugzy Malone and Aitch, director Sofia Coppola, and Liam Gallagher‘s children Gene and Lennon were also pictured at the event in Thomas Street in Manchester‘s Northern Quarter.

The street was closed for Chanel to put on the show, one of the fashion world’s most prestigious events.

Manchester is “one of the most effervescent cities of pop culture and an avant-garde one, whose bands, spanning all genres, have changed the history of music”, the French luxury fashion house said when explaining how it chose the 2023-24 event’s location.

Chanel’s creative director, Virginie Viard – who took over from Karl Lagerfeld after he died in 2019 – hosted the show, which aims to highlight specialist ateliers acquired by the brand.

Past collections have been held in Tokyo, Shanghai, Rome and Dakar.

The invitation for the event came with a 12-inch vinyl record, as well as a Manchester-themed cashmere scarf and a magazine featuring the Coronation Street street sign – changed to say Chanel St, naturally – a video posted by cultural website Manchester’s Finest revealed.
