Bargain Hunt expert Charles Hanson to appear in court on assault charges

Bargain Hunt expert Charles Hanson has been charged with assault and controlling or coercive behaviour, police have said.

The 45-year-old, from Derbyshire, is accused of seven alleged offences in total and is due to appear in court in January.

Hanson, of Hansons Auctioneers, is an expert on the BBC’s Bargain Hunt and has also appeared on shows including Flog It! and Antiques Road Trip.

In a statement, Hanson told Sky News: “I deny all of the charges.

“I will be co-operating fully with the investigation and legal process.”

Police said they were called to reports of an incident in June and that a man was arrested on suspicion of assault. He was released on police bail while enquiries continued.

Hanson was charged on 14 December, with alleged offences including two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of assault by beating, and engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour.

Hanson, of Mackworth, has been released on police bail to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on 10 January.
