A Good Samaritan who went to the aid of a train passenger was kicked on to railway tracks by the woman and a man she was travelling with.
British Transport Police (BTP) are investigating the assault, which happened at Shotts Railway Station in North Lanarkshire at around 10.50pm on Friday 26 January.
The incident occurred as a train from Glasgow Central pulled into the station.
BTP said the female victim had attempted to assist another woman on the train “who was upset”.
The distressed woman and a man she was travelling with then assaulted the victim and kicked her on to the railway tracks.

A BTP spokesperson said: “Officers are appealing to other passengers at the station who may have witnessed the incident take place to get in touch.”
