Murder investigation launched after man, 57, hit by Land Rover in Manchester

Police in Manchester have launched a murder investigation after a 57-year-old man was hit by a Land Rover.

Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of an unresponsive male on Olympic Street, Beswick, just before 11am on Saturday.

Despite the efforts of members of the public and emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made.

Officers believe the man was hit by a black Land Rover.

Detective Inspector Rachel Smith said: “I would like to thank the brave members of the public who immediately came to assist the victim as emergency services arrived at the scene.

“This is a tragic incident where a man has lost his life and our priority at this time is supporting his family and getting them the answers they deserve. Our thoughts remain with them at this devastating time.

“I understand and share the shock that this incident will cause the community.”

She called for anyone who saw anything suspicious or who witnessed the incident to come forward.
