Kia continues to make it easier for EV drivers to charge. Its EV charging service, Kia Charge, now has over 800,000 charging points across 28 European countries, an increase of 39% from last year.
Kia’s EV charging service is growing in Europe
Launched in September 2021, Kia Charge is the automaker’s exclusive EV charging solution for Europe.
The service is a complete charging service for Kia drivers, including route planning, authentication, and payments under one umbrella.
“Kia continues to set the benchmark for making electric driving more accessible to a wider range of audience, with Kia Charge helping to simplify and enhance every journey,” Kia Europe’s director of customer experiences and solutions, Martin Enthofer said.
Kia announced that its network has reached a milestone, topping 800,000 EV chargers. This is an increase of 39% from Q2 2023. The announcement comes after Kia announced that its network crossed 700,000 chargers in April.
The charging solution now has over 100,000 subscribers. Kia said drivers have already completed over 2.5 million sessions using the Kia Charge card or app.
“As more electric vehicles take to the road, it’s important to match this uptake with an increasing number of charging points,” Enthofer said.
Kia has launched its charging service in 19 European countries so far but said customers can still use the charging points in regions where it has yet to be introduced.
With the new EV3 rolling out, starting at around $40,000 (36,000 euros), Kia expects its EV sales to accelerate in Europe.
Kia is already calling the EV3 a “game changer” in its home market. Next year, the EV4 electric sedan will join the lineup. Expected to start in the $35,000 to $40,000 price range, Kia plans to meet the growing need for more affordable EVs.
Meanwhile, in the US, Kia EV9 and EV6 drivers will gain access to Tesla’s Supercharger network on January 15, 2025. Kia said buyers who took delivery of a new 2024 or 2025 Kia EV9 or 2024 EV6 from September 4, 2024, will be sent a free NACS adapter. Those who have bought a Kia EV before the deadline will be able to purchase one from a dealer at a later date.
