At least six people have been killed and nine were injured in a shooting and stabbing attack in Tel Aviv, Israeli police have said.

Two gunmen began their suspected terror attack on the city’s light rail system before continuing on foot, officers added.

The suspects opened fire on a boulevard in Jaffa, a mixed Arab-Jewish neighbourhood in southern Tel Aviv.

The pair were then killed by civilians and inspectors using personal pistols.

The assault took place moments before a massive barrage of rockets from Iran sent people into bomb shelters across Israel, including in Tel Aviv.

TV footage showed the gunmen leaving a light rail station and opening fire.
