BYD is preparing to launch its new full-size luxury electric SUV later this year. Ahead of its official debut, BYD released two new images of the Denza N9 without any camouflage for the first time.
BYD preps to launch new full-size electric SUV
Although best known for its super-affordable EVs, like its best-selling Seagull, BYD is quickly entering new segments.
BYD is expected to launch a new full-size flagship electric SUV later this year under its luxury Denza brand.
According to Denza’s head of sales, Zhao Changjiang, the Denza N9 will be built on BYD’s new e-Platform 3.0. It’s expected to arrive in China later this year in plug-in hybrid and all-electric powertrain options.
BYD’s e3 technology will power the electric SUV. With three electric motors, the system packs nearly 1,000 hp and enables dual-motor independent steering at the rear.
BYD’s Denza brand launched the Z9 GT last month, the first vehicle underpinned by its e-Platform 3.0. The Denza Z9 GT starts at $47,400 (RMB 334,800) as a potential Porsche Panorama rival.
Previously released images with camouflage revealed the Denza N9 will be 5.3 meters long with an advanced smart cockpit.
“Denza N9 is a tech Super Gentleman,” Zhao said. Last month, Denza’s sales boss said the flagship model would be an SUV that rivals would not be able to match within five years.
After selling a record 419,426 vehicles last month, BYD topped SAIC to become China’s largest auto group. Denza accounted for 10,299 of BYD’s total sales in September, with over 90,000 vehicles sold in 2024 so far. The luxury brand currently sells the N7, N8, and N9 electric SUVs, with a new MPV and several electric sedans on the way.
The Denza N9 is the latest model as BYD expands into new markets, including pickup trucks, luxury SUVs, and electric supercars.
