The new John Deere Z370R Electric ZTrak zero turn residential electric riding mower promises to deliver the power and performance Deere’s ICE customers expect in a quiet, maintenance-free electric package.
The new electric Deere features a 54-inch mowing deck, offering a higher cutting capacity than the previous Z370R (which featured a 42-inch deck). The updated mower also features two 3.2 kWh rechargeable li-ion battery packs instead of one, allowing the new version up to cover up to 3.5 acres of lawn instead of 2.
“With the introduction of the Z380R Electric, we’re rounding out our portfolio of residential zero-turn mowers, providing our customers with both gas and electric options to suit their unique needs,” said Eric Halfman, go-to-market manager, riding lawn equipment, John Deere. “The new model builds on the proven performance of the Z370R, updated with a larger deck for enhanced efficiency, making it an ideal choice for homeowners seeking a powerful, low-maintenance solution to keep their lawns looking pristine.”
The Z370R’s electric transaxle, seven mph maximum forward speed, and three different drive modes controlled from a large LCD screen carry over from the previous model. It ships with a comprehensive two-year/200-hour bumper-to-bumper warranty and a five-year/200-hour battery warranty from Deere, with a 10-year/400-hour warranty available.
Electrek’s Take
When John Deere launched the first Z370R last year, Peter Johnson wrote that electrifying lawn equipment needs to be a priority, citing EPA data that showed gas-powered lawnmowers making up five percent of the total air pollution in the US (despite covering far less than 5% of the total miles driven on that gas). “Moreover,” he writes, “it takes about 800 million gallons of gasoline each year (with an additional 17 million gallons spilled) to fuel this equipment.”
