Chinese EV automaker ZEEKR has officially begun mass production of its 5th model, the MIX. The start of production in China comes mere days before ZEEKR launches the new MIX EV during a livestream event, where we will learn more about the ins and outs of this uniquely designed vehicle.
The MIX is a new van-like multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) from Geely-owned EV automaker ZEEKR. We first learned about ZEEKR’s fifth all-electric model in March when it shared the first official images.
At the time, details surrounding the MIX remained light, but its makers described that the new model would “break the constraints of space.” Designed with families who like to travel together in mind, this new compact MPV is truly unique, as it is too large to be a minivan yet somewhat compact for a full-size MPV.
Regulatory filings in China revealed that the ZEEKR MIX will arrive as a five-seat model – 4,688 mm in length, 1,995 mm in width, and 1,755 mm in height, offering a wheelbase of 3,008 mm. The specific ZEEKR MIX models submitted into the filing catalog were all single-motor versions with a maximum power of 310 kW.
The MIX is also expected to be powered by a new SEA-M architecture with lithium-ion ternary batteries supplied through a joint venture between industry giant CATL and ZEEKR’s parent company, Geely.
Previously, ZEEKR had also shared that the new EV will be the first mass-produced model of its kind to feature swiveling seats that enable front passengers to socialize with the back and even enjoy some hot pot cuisine while parked.
Some of those specs and features might have changed since March, and we will know for sure once the Chinese automaker officially launches the MPV in China later this week. However, mass production of the MIX is underway, and initial builds have already made their way to showrooms in China.
ZEEKR MIX to reach customers in China very soon
ZEEKR shared several images and videos of the start of the MIX production process in China on its Weibo page this morning, declaring that the new all-electric MPV “is finally here.”
As mentioned in the post, the first batch of MIX models built for customers have rolled off the assembly lines and will soon be headed to future homes. ZEEKR also posted the first launch commercial for the MIX EV, which you can view in detail here.
With production now underway, we simply need to wait for the official launch to learn more about the specific performance specs and pricing for the planned MIX variants. ZEEKR has been advertising the event all over Weibo, which will take place on the evening of October 23, China time.
We will share all the details of this new model when they become available. Check back with Electrek soon.
