Police searching for a woman missing for almost a week have discovered a body.

Joanne Jones, 49, had been missing from her home in Pontypridd since Monday.

Her body was discovered on Saturday evening and she has now been formally identified.

Ms Jones’s next of kin and the coroner have been informed, South Wales Police said.

Extensive searches were carried out, involving multiple agencies. CCTV images were also shared as part of an appeal to find Ms Jones, who was last seen wearing a green coat, walking boots and a black rucksack.

Her family have thanked the emergency services and members of the local community who helped with the search throughout the week.

They have now asked for privacy so they can begin to come to terms with their loss.

Detective Chief Inspector Emma Hampton said she wished to express her sympathies to Ms Jones’s family “at what is a very sad time for them”.

“I also want to thank our emergency services colleagues and members of the public who assisted in our search effort over the last week,” she said.

“I can also confirm that we are not treating Joanne’s death as suspicious.”
