Top-ranked Oregon lost No. 1 receiver and punt returner Tez Johnson with an injury in the first quarter of Saturday’s 38-17 win over host Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Johnson reappeared on the sideline before halftime in street clothes and wearing a sling on his right arm. Oregon coach Dan Lanning did not provide any further details on Johnson’s status in his postgame media availability.
“I hate it for him, because I love the competitor he is,” quarterback Dillon Gabriel said. “He’s a guy who loves the game and is vocal about his passion. He loves the game of football. So it’s hard, and you hate it for him.”
The fifth-year senior had one catch for 11 yards before getting hurt.
In Johnson’s absence, senior Traeshon Holden had the first 100-yard receiving game of his career, finishing the game with a team-high 149 receiving yards on six catches.
Johnson has been one of Gabriel’s top targets, totaling 638 receiving yards and eight touchdowns, which leads all Oregon receivers. Johnson is also averaging over 10 yards per catch.
