Police arrest man wanted over death of woman in Plymouth

Police have arrested a 53-year-old man on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in Plymouth.

The woman in her 40s was found seriously injured in the street on West Hoe Road on Wednesday night and died later in hospital.

Earlier on Thursday, officers launched an appeal to find Paul Antony Butler in connection with her death.

Devon and Cornwall Police announced on Thursday evening he had been located and arrested in Liskeard, Cornwall, around 20 miles from Plymouth.

He is currently being held in police custody.

The force also said it would refer itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) because of previous contact with the victim.

A police spokesperson said the force was “continuing to support” the victim’s family.

They added: “Officers would like to thank the local community for their assistance and their patience while our enquiries continue into this incident.”
