Jeep, Dodge maker validates ‘breakthrough’ solid-state EV batteries coming in 2026

After hitting another major milestone, Stellantis is preparing to bring the next-gen battery tech from the lab to reality. The electric Dodge Charger will be the first EV to launch with Factorial’s “breakthrough” solid-state batteries in 2026.

Stellantis is ready to take the next step after successfully validating Factorial Energy’s automotive-sized solid-state battery cells.

Compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries, Factorial’s Fest (Factorial Electrolyte System Technology) promises significantly higher energy density, faster charging, and longer driving range.

The 77Ah solid-state battery cells provided an energy density of 375 Wh/kg with over 600 cycles. According to Stellantis, the cells cut charging time from 10% to over 90% in just 18 minutes with discharge rates of up to 4C.

With an optimized, lighter design, the battery pack unlocks more driving while also cutting costs that can be passed on to buyers.

At a third of the size and 40% lighter (580 lbs vs 800 lbs) than traditional Li-ion batteries, Factorial aims to unlock a driving range of over 600 miles.

Although the test was at room temperature, Factorial’s electrolyte system is designed to work in temperatures ranging from -30°C to 45°C (-22°F to 113°F).

Factorial Energy CEO, Siyu Huang, said, “While optimizing one feature is simple, balancing high energy density, cycle life, fast charging, and safety in an automotive-sized battery with OEM validation is a breakthrough,” adding that the latest milestone is “bringing next-generation battery technology from research to reality.”

Stellantis and Factorial have been working together since 2021 to bring the promising new battery tech to market.

Last year, Stellantis confirmed plans to launch a fleet of electric Dodge Chargers in 2026, which will be its first vehicles to be equipped with Factorial’s solid-state EV batteries.

Stellantis said its STLA Large platform, which underpins the Jeep Wagoneer S and the Dodge Charger EV, is an ideal match for integrating Factorial’s solid-state battery pack.

Factorial is also working with Mercedes-Benz to launch the breakthrough EV battery tech. In February, Mercedes announced it had officially put “the first car powered by a lithium-metal solid-state battery on the road” using a modified EQS.
