XPeng unveils MONA M03 Max ahead of official launch later this month

XPeng Motors has pulled the sheet off the top-tier variant of one of its newest and best-selling BEV models. During an event in China earlier today, XPeng unveiled the MONA M03 Max with a slew of new color combinations, enhanced pure vision ADAS, and the full version of the Chinese automaker’s Tianji cockpit system.

We are nearly a year removed from XPeng Motors’ first hint at a new model that would become known as the MONA M03. After teaser images all summer, XPeng officially unveiled the MONA M03 in July 2024 before officially launching the model at ultra-affordable prices.

For example, the M03 initially launched in three separate trims, priced at RMB 119,800 ($16,815), RMB 129,800 ($18,220), and RMB 155,800 ($21,870), respectively. The three variants – 515, 620, and 580 Max – refer to each MONA M03’s CLTC range (km), and the “Max” signifies the addition of XPeng’s smart driving ADAS capability.

The two lower-end trims of the MONA M03 began deliveries in August 2024 and have since propelled the model to the top-selling A-segment BEV sedan in China for eight consecutive months. By the end of March 2025, XPeng announced it had built 100,000 MONA EVs in seven months, hailing the milestone as a new record for passenger BEVs.

Today, the company shared that 90% of the sedan’s customers are under 35. As such, XPeng has unveiled the MONA M03 Max, which features several exclusive options to cater to its younger customer base.

MONA M03 Max to officially launch in late May

According to several posts to XPeng Motors’ Weibo page today, the company held an M03 Max event in China attended by current MONA owners and XPeng founder, chairman, and CEO He Xiaopeng (pictured above). The event featured a pink and purple gift-wrapped BEV, and “furry” in a Hawaiian shirt, and one of the funniest, poorly translated captions from Weibo I’ve seen yet:

Xiaopeng MONA Max 520 surprise unboxing, giving you a sweet attack. Handsome men and beautiful women gathered at the scene, couples can’t eat enough dog food, maybe your other half is waiting for you in Pengyou circle~

We’ll blame that one on Google.

Described as a milestone in XPeng’s youth strategy and “the dream car of young people,” the MONA M03 Max features three new exterior colors, three interior colors, two new wheel styles, and AI blue lights on its side view mirrors. Per XPeng’s post, the MONA M03 Max offers over 50 official color combinations.

Inside the MONA M03 Max variant is “class-leading comfortable front seats and a three-airbag lumbar support,” a 1.22-square-meter panoramic skylight with an ultraviolet isolation rate of up to 99.9%, and through-type electric air outlet air-conditioning.

On the performance and tech side, the new MONA M03 Max will come equipped with XPeng’s Turing AI-assisted driving system, complemented by the full version of the automaker’s Tianji AI smart cockpit. Per XPeng, Tianji has been upgraded from voice interaction to scenario-based services, refreshing the upper limit of the smart driving experience.

Lastly, XPeng shared that the MONA M03 Max’s battery life has been dramatically improved, but the price “remains reasonable.” Display models of the new Max variant are expected to hit XPeng showrooms on May 21 before its official launch, including pricing and delivery timelines, later this month.
