Heybike’s new Helio F folding e-bike brings back fun retro vibes

Heybike has just unveiled its latest two-wheeled creation: the Helio F, a sleek new folding e-bike designed to bring a little vintage flair to your high-tech urban commute. Weighing in at just 18 kg (40 lb), the Helio F is one of the lightest folding electric bikes we’ve seen lately – and it’s clearly built with style-conscious city riders in mind.

The move is all the more interesting considering most folder e-bikes today, including all of Heybike’s other folders, seem to opt for fat tires, big motors, high-capacity batteries, and other performance components that add to the poundage. But the Helio F goes the other direction with an eye on self-restraint and design to create a modestly powered but convenient folding e-bike platform.

Underneath its retro-inspired looks lies a surprisingly capable commuter machine. The Helio F packs a 250W rear hub motor, paired with a torque sensor and a Shimano Altus 8-speed drivetrain, offering a natural-feeling ride with enough zip to get you through stop-and-go traffic. The 360Wh battery is tucked neatly into the downtube and promises up to 120 km (75 mi) of range in the most efficient pedal-assist mode.

US riders will appreciate the available throttle mode and a top speed of 40 km/h (25 mph), while the EU version tops out at the standard 25 km/h (15.5 mph). Just keep in mind that the throttle will severely cut into the max claimed range.

Braking is handled by Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, and the Schwalbe Billy Bonkers 20×2.0″ tires are tucked into a frame sporting a rigid thru-axle fork, keeping things light but rugged for daily use. Add in LED lights, a clean LCD display, and a recharge time of just 4–6 hours, and you’ve got a commuter bike that ticks a lot of boxes for riders in search of a simple, elegant folding e-bike.

But perhaps the most eye-catching part of the Helio F is found just skin deep, or paint deep. Heybike teamed up with three international artists to create limited-edition models that double as rolling artwork. The designs are as eye-catching as they are innovative.

Each version tells a different story, from surreal nature scenes to vibrant cityscapes, making the Helio F as much a conversation piece as a commuter tool.

But getting the unique look will cost you a bit more. The fancy paint job models are priced at $1,399, while the ‘normal’ red or green models are priced at $1,299.
