Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey has said Woody Harrelson could actually be his brother.
The revelation came as the Academy Award winner and author of Greenlights spoke on Kelly Ripa’s Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast, about his “bromance” with his True Detective co-star.
McConaughey revealed on the show how his mother possibly knew Harrelson’s father.
Referring to the bond he shares with Harrelson, the actor said: “You know, where I start and where he ends, and where he starts and I end, has always been a murky line and that’s part of the bromance right?”
McConaughey said his friendship with Harrelson has also brought their families together.
“My kids call him uncle Woody, his kids call me uncle Matthew… and you see pictures of us and my family thinks a lot of pictures of him are me and my family thinks a lot of pictures of me are him,” he said.
‘Woody, I knew your dad’
McConaughey said his mother dropped heavy hints regarding a genetic link to Harrelson on a trip to Greece some years ago.
He said: “We’re sitting around talking about how close we are and our families. And my mum is there, and she says ‘Woody, I knew your dad.’

“Everyone was aware of the ellipses that my mom left after ‘knew’. It was a loaded K-N-E-W,” he joked.
After his mother’s comment McConaughey said he began to do the “math”.
“We went on to unpack what this ‘knew’ meant, and did some math and found out that [Harrelson’s] dad was on furlough at the same time my mum and dad were in their second divorce,” he added.
The Oscar winner said there may also be possible receipts and places where there “might have been a gathering or a meeting or a ‘knew’ moment.”
When asked if the actor has taken a DNA test to check if Harrelson was really his half-brother, McConaughey responded: “It’s a little easier for Woods to say ‘Come on let’s do it!’ [DNA test] What’s the skin in it for him?
“It’s a little harder for me because he’s asking me to take the chance to go ‘Wait a minute, you’re trying to tell me my dad may not be my dad after 53 years of believing that?’ I got more skin in the game.”

The pair are set to star in a comedy series called Brother From Another Mother on Apple TV+.
The series is “based on truth,” McConaughey said and explores the bond between the two actors and their families.
The comedy created by Emmy Award winner David West Read is a “heartfelt odd couple love story” based around the “strange and beautiful bond” between McConaughey and Harrelson, the Apple TV+ press release said.
“Matthew and Woody’s friendship is tested when their combined families attempt to live together on Matthew’s ranch in Texas,” it added.
A woman who was charged with selling Friends star Matthew Parry the dose of the drug that killed him has agreed to plead guilty.
Jasveen Sangha, known as the “Ketamine Queen”, is the fifth and final defendant to strike a plea deal with prosecutors, avoiding a trial that was set to take place in September.
The 42-year-old agreed to plead guilty to five federal criminal charges, including providing the Ketamine that led to Perry’s death, federal prosecutors said in a statement.
She agreed to plead guilty to five federal criminal charges, including providing the Ketamine that led to Perry’s death, federal prosecutors said in a statement.
Prosecutors had cast Sangha, a dual US and UK national, as a prolific drug dealer known to her customers as the “Ketamine Queen”, often using the term in court documents and even including it in the official name of the case.

She is facing up to 45 years in prison.
Sangha and a doctor named Salvador Plasencia, who signed his own plea deal in June, had been the primary targets of the investigation.
Three other defendants – Mark Chavez, who it was claimed bought the drug from Sangha, Kenneth Iwamasa, and Erik Flemin – agreed to plead guilty last year in exchange for their cooperation, which included statements implicating Sangha and Plasencia.

Prosecutors allege Chavez funnelled ketamine to Plasencia, securing some of the drug from a wholesale distributor through a fraudulent prescription.
In one instance, prosecutors allege that Plasencia “charged Perry $2,000 (£1,500) a vial that cost Dr Chavez approximately $12 (£9)”.
Perry died in his home in October 2023, aged 54, after getting ketamine from his regular doctor for treatment of depression, which is an increasingly common use for the surgical anaesthetic.
The actor was taking ketamine six to eight times a day before he died, according to court documents.
