Closing out this week’s Green Deals, we have three major e-bike sales alongside low prices on popular power station models. Velotric 2024 Discover 1 Plus commuter e-bike at $1,199 and get $102 in free gear

Velotric has launched a new sale in celebration of fishing season with up to $702 in savings on four of the brand’s popular e-bikes, with the 2024 Discover 1 Plus e-bike at the forefront for $1,199 shipped, with $102 in free gear too. Normally priced at $1,599, this model is usually included in sales events like today, with it more often falling to $1,299 in 2024, though we did see it drop to the $1,099 low back in March. You’re looking at a solid $400 markdown that combines with the additional rear rack and left mirror (valued at $102) for a combined $502 in savings at the second-lowest price we have tracked. You can even bump the savings up by another $200 when buying two models together, with the discount being applied automatically in your cart.

Velotric’s updated 2024 Discover 1 Plus e-bike arrives as an affordable and capable commuter solution with a 692Wh battery that powers the 500W motor (900W peak) for up to 65 miles of travel. There are five levels of pedal assistance to support the rider, or you can also use the throttle on its own for a reduced range of up to 58 miles. It reaches a standard speed of 20 MPH, but you can unlock its capabilities further up to 28 MPH (an increase from the previous build’s 25 MPH).

While Velotric’s Discover 1 Plus e-bike doesn’t sport the higher power ratings, upgraded parts, and Apple Find My integration as the new Discover 2, it does still come with a nice collection of features at such a low price. There is the SHIMANO 7-speed derailleur, an integrated 60 lux LED headlight, a taillight with braking functionality, double hydraulic disc brakes, larger 26-inch puncture-resistant tires, an increased IPX7 waterproof rating, fenders above both tires, and a 3.5-inch LCD display. There’s a USB-A port on the display to charge your phone as you ride, and it even has a walk assist mode for when you are forced to stop your ride to get it up extreme inclines.

EcoFlow flash sale offers new RIVER 3 power station with backpack alongside DELTA 2 bundle, starts from $169 low

EcoFlow’s next 24-hour flash sale is here and is now offering two different backup power deals at a significantly reduced price. One is a bundle direct from the brand’s site while the other, the new RIVER 3 Portable Power Station is coming to us via its official Amazon storefront at $169 shipped – plus, you get a free backpack valued at $79. This is the second official time we have seen this model drop down from its $259 price tag, with the first occurring right along with its official release on September 10 to the same rate, albeit without the gifted bag. The next in EcoFlow’s line of compact backup solutions, the RIVER 3 delivers a 245Wh LiFePO4 battery capacity alongside X-GaNPower technology for increased efficiency by “delivering double runtime for appliances under 100W while reducing the size and controlling the volume to less than 30 dB at a distance of 1.5 ft.” It comes with six output options to cover charging needs: two AC ports, two USB-A ports, one USB-C port, and a car port. After draining it to empty, the battery can quickly be recharged in just a single hour plugged into a wall outlet, or hook up a 110W solar panel to refuel in up to 2.6 hours.

There are tons of protections and safety measures built into its design here too, like the X-Guard tech that combines an advanced algorithm with a cloud-based battery monitoring system for 40+ safeguards against various currents, voltages, temperatures, and circuit risks. The most prominent addition though is the X-Boost tech that lets it run larger 600W heating appliances while only using 300W of power, which is a big changeup for folks who prefer these smaller units. The whole thing also arrives waterproof, fireproof, and drop-resistant for better case scenarios when the unexpected unfortunately happens.

The other deal in this flash sale is on the tried and true DELTA 2 Portable Power Station that comes bundled with a smart extra battery and a free waterproof bag for $899, down from $1,798. You’ll get a 2,048Wh capacity with this combo, which you can expand with more extra batteries up to 3,000Wh. Rad Power has shuffled its offerings of discounted e-bikes and bundle deals while extending others – all through October 2. The biggest discount and lowest price among the bunch remains on the RadRover 6 Plus ST e-bike at $1,299, but I want to shift my focus this time around to one of my hands-down favorite models from the brand: the RadWagon 4 Cargo e-bike at $1,599 shipped that also comes with a free cargo bag. It normally sits at a $1,799 price tag these days, with occasional inclusions in these sales often bringing costs down to $1,599. We’ve only seen the price on this model fall lower twice before, once to $1,399 over summer 2023 and the other time being its very first pre-order discount to $1,299 years ago (which has never been seen again since). You’re getting the opportunity to land it here today at its 2024 low and its third-lowest price overall, with a combined $309 in savings when you factor in the free cargo bag valued at $109 (make sure to add both to your cart for the automatic discount).

The RadWagon 4 is one of the most frequent models I’ve seen riding around the streets of NYC, particularly for parents who are using its 350-pound payload capacity to haul their kids to and from daily appointments – especially in highly congested areas where subway stops are sparse and parking a car would be a nightmare. UAW tells Stellantis workers to prepare for a fight, and vote for strike

Update on situation at Stellantis

The UAW union’s Stellantis Council met yesterday to discuss the beleaguered carmaker’s “ongoing failure” to honor the agreement that ended the 2023 labor strike, and their latest union memo doesn’t pull many punches.

It’s not a great time to be Stellantis. Its dealers are suing leadership and threatening to oust the company’s controversial CEO, Carlos Tavares, as sales continue to crater in North America, it can’t move its new, high-profile electric Fiat, and it’s first luxury electric Jeep isn’t ready. And now, things are about to get bad.

In an email sent out by the UAW earlier today (received at 4:55PM CST), UAW President Shawn Fain wrote, “For years, the company picked us off plant-by-plant and we lacked the will and the means to fight back. Today is different. Because we stood together and demanded the right to strike over job security—product commitment—we have the tools to fight back and win … We unanimously recommend to the membership that every UAW worker at Stellantis prepare for a fight, and we all get ready to vote YES to authorize a strike at Stellantis.”

The dispute seems to stem from Stellantis’ inability to commit to new product (and continued employment) at its UAW-run plants and other failings to meet its strike-ending obligations. This, despite a €3 billion stock buyback executed in late 2023.

Kia promises the new EV9 GT will have “enormous power,” but that’s not all. For the first time, the Kia EV9 GT was caught with an active spoiler, giving us a sneak peek at potential new upgrades.

The brand’s first three-row electric SUV is already making its presence known in the US, helping push Kia to back-to-back record sales months. Meanwhile, a more powerful, sporty variant is on the way.

Kia confirmed the EV9 GT will top off the electric SUV’s lineup in April. Packing “enormous power,” the high-performance GT model can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in 4 secs.

With a “high-output” dual-motor (AWD) system, the EV9 GT can quickly pick up speed despite weighing over 5,000 lbs.

Kia also equipped it with other high-performance features, such as a reinforced suspension and electronic braking system, for better control and stability.

We’ve already caught a glimpse of the performance electric SUV out testing, revealing aggressive new bumpers and wheels. Now, a new design feature has been spotted.

Kia EV9 GT could come with an active rear spoiler

The latest video from HealerTV shows the EV9 GT with what appears to be an active spoiler. As the reporter noted, it could be similar to the one spotted on the Genesis GV70 Magma.

Tesla’s Model X also used to come with an active spoiler until it was dropped a few years back. Although the GT model was spotted with one, Kia could just be testing new features, so don’t get too excited yet.

Earlier this week, a video from HealerTV showed the front row of the EV9 GT, comparing it to the current GT-Line model.

Several differences can be immediately noticed, including a more aggressive, all-black design with a yellow stripe down the center of the seat.

Kia is set to launch the EV9 GT in early 2025. It will rival other performance SUVs like the Tesla Model X Plaid.

Although prices have yet to be confirmed, the GT model is expected to sit above the current GT-Line at $73,900. In comparison, Tesla’s Model X Plaid starts at $94,990 and can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 secs.

Chargeway and Consumer Reports team up to improve charging

CHARGEWAY PARTNERS WITH CONSUMER REPORTS TO IMPROVE PUBLIC EV CHARGING REVIEWS & RATINGS

Consumer Reports and EV charging app Chargeway are working together to give drivers a better way to rate public chargers, report uptime, and address maintenance issues.

The Chargeway app is best known for its use of numbers and colors to simplify the complexity of multiple charge ports and different charging speeds for new EV drivers. The app also enables Chargeway users to rate and review the public charging stations they visit – and now, those ratings can show up on Consumer Reports.

The technical collaboration with Chargeway is part of a larger effort called the EV Charging Community, which engages with a number of different EV advocacy groups including Plug In America, GreenLatinos, and Generation 180, and leverages the mobile app to rate public EV charging experiences based on various factors, with the findings reported back to industry stakeholders like EVSE manufacturers, CPOs, and utilities.

“We are very excited to be partnering with Consumer Reports,” says Chargeway founder, Matt Teske. “From day one, Chargeway has focused on a driver first app design to provide easier EV charging experiences as well as transparency for what drivers can anticipate at (the) station they choose … we share Consumer Reports’ goal to give drivers a voice in the public EV charging reliability conversation. Now, instead of posting complaints on social media and feeling ignored, EV drivers can use the Chargeway mobile app to provide their feedback to the leading consumer advocacy organization.”

Consumer Reports says it’s already seen nearly a third of its 1,600 enrolled community members experience a problem with public charging, so it’s a real problem. “Charging stations are critical services, but when they’re out of order or barely functional, it wastes consumers’ valuable time,” explains Drew Toher, Consumer Reports’ sustainability campaign manager.

Consumer Reports points out that EV drivers who don’t use Chargeway can also enroll to be part of the community at this link.

Electrek’s Take

Chargeway founder Matt Teske is an old friend. He’s a good friend, too, so it’s great to see his top-shelf EV charging app starting to get some of the recognition it deserves. The CR tie-up and added visibility these ratings will give to industry stakeholders are only going to make things better for EV drivers everywhere.
