Tesla has officially launched its Supercharger network in Chile, which is the automaker’s first entry in South America.

The automaker has expanded its efforts across North America, and most countries in Europe, and it is still gradually expanding in Asia.

But there’s one continent that Tesla hasn’t touched yet: South America.

Late last year, we reported that this was about to change when Tesla started to list jobs in Chile.

A year later, things are starting to happen.

Tesla announced today that it officially launched its Supercharger network in Chile with the first two stations:

One is in Santiago, the country’s metropole, and the other one is in Curauma, on the coast.

Tesla has already opened two stores in Chile, both in Santiago, and the automaker has a service center in the work in the city also:

Tesla is already taking orders in the country and the Chilean Model Y configurator currently shows delivery in “October-November”:

Chile is an interesting choice for a first entry into the South American market. The Chilean auto market consists of only about 300,000 vehicles sold per year.

That’s roughly the number of vehicles sold in Brazil every month.

While the size of the auto market in the country is small, there’s a strong interest for electric vehicles there, which might explain Tesla’s foray.

The country is rich in lithium, a critical material for EV batteries, which has helped create interest for electric vehicles in the country. The government also announced an initiative to allow for only new sales of electric vehicles in the country starting in 2035.

It will be interesting to see how Tesla will compete with Chinese automakers who have so far been leading the electrification of South American markets.

Famed e-bike company gone bankrupt sells to mystery buyer for $1.2M

Famed e-bike company gone bankrupt sells to mystery buyer for .2M

Juiced Bikes, the much-lauded Southern California electric bicycle maker, appears to have been sold at auction for around US $1,225,000.

Or at least the company’s branding, intellectual property, remaining inventory and assets have been sold, with the actual status of the company still somewhat unclear.

While we still don’t have any official confirmation from the company, Juiced Bikes’ website has been out of stock for weeks and customers have been complaining that the company has gone radio silent with them.

When we recently reported on the apparent financial duress and potentially pending closure of the company last week, Juiced’s assets had just been put up for auction, removing what little doubt remained about the direction that the famed brand was headed.

The company was split into a series of auction lots covering everything from over a dozen patents to the company’s multiple URLs and even a Sprinter cargo van, as well as all of Juiced’s stateside and China-based inventory. The final result of the auction, which ended yesterday, appears to have been a sale with a sum US $1,225,000.

However, no one knows yet who placed the winning bid.

At that level though, there’s little doubt that some type of institutional investor or rival electric bike maker likely stepped in to grab the Juiced Bikes brand and assets for pennies on the dollar.

In addition to hundreds of thousands of dollars of existing inventory included in the sale, the Juiced Bikes brand carries significant value based on around 15 years of building its strong reputation in the industry.

At its prime, Juiced Bikes was well known for producing powerful, high-performance e-bikes designed for a wide range of riding styles, from commuting to adventure riding. The company’s strong reputation for focus on long-range battery capabilities and innovative designs was built over nearly 15 years, beginning with one of the first electric cargo bikes available on the market in the US.

Popular models like the HyperScrambler, RipCurrent, and CrossCurrent helped Juiced Bikes carve out a niche in the competitive e-bike market, offering riders impressive power, speed, and durability. The company’s commitment to delivering e-bikes with greater power and longer range made it a prominent player in the growing electric bicycle industry, though it obviously wasn’t immune to the volatile funding landscape in the e-bike market following the post-pandemic boom.

At this point, we’re still waiting for official word from the company’s founders and any other information that could help determine what will become of this groundbreaking e-bike company that was making waves in the nascent North American electric bicycle industry years before today’s largest e-bike brands were even an idea.

Trump-backed crypto coin misses $300 million sales target, raises less than $12 million

Trump-backed crypto coin misses 0 million sales target, raises less than million

Trump’s coin sale misses targets as crypto project’s website crashes

It’s been just over 24 hours since the launch of the Donald Trump-endorsed digital coin “WLFI,” and the token is failing to deliver on the ambitious fundraising goals set by its founding team.

World Liberty Financial — which bills itself as a crypto bank where customers will be encouraged to borrow, lend and invest in digital coins — began its token sale on Tuesday morning. On Monday, project co-founder Zachary Folkman bragged in a prelaunch stream on X that “well over 100,000 people” were whitelisted to invest.

“We knew that this project was highly anticipated. We knew that there was a lot of excitement in the marketplace,” said Folkman to the 12,000 people tuning into the event on X. “However, these numbers are just, in my opinion, unheard of, and I think we’re setting all sorts of new records in crypto.”

But blockchain data tracked by Etherscan shows that about 9,050 unique wallet addresses hold the token as of Wednesday morning, representing roughly 9% of the total number of people who registered.

Trump, the Republican nominee for president, pumped the coin in a video post Tuesday evening on X, promoting the World Liberty website and telling his followers that the token sale was live and that “crypto is the future.”

In a road map given to prospective investors first viewed by The Block, the WLF proposal says the coin is looking to raise $300 million at a $1.5 billion valuation in its initial sale. The platform says, so far, it has sold more than 788 million tokens at 1.5 cents per token.

That is less than 4% of the 20 billion tokens made available for public sale and amounts to around $11.8 million, still well off the $300 million fundraising target.

WLF did not respond to CNBC’s request for comment.

Trump-backed crypto token launches, but questions around its utility remain: CNBC Crypto World

Part of the problem was that the project website, the exclusive marketplace for the new coin, suffered regular, lengthy outages frequently showing a page saying, “We are under maintenance.”

But there are other roadblocks that may have impacted the coin’s debut. WLFI is a Regulation D token offering, which means retail investors have largely been cut out of the process.

This provision makes it possible to raise capital without first registering a security with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, but certain conditions must be met, such as limiting the size of the sale and restricting it to accredited investors, defined in part as having a net worth of more than $1 million. While the offering is one way to reduce legal exposure, it cuts down on the size of the potential investor pool.

The World Liberty team has also been specific in calling WLFI a governance token that allows holders to vote on decisions regarding the protocol, but would not signify equity in the venture itself.

As of now, however, there’s nothing for WLFI token holders to vote on since the crypto bank connected to the digital coin doesn’t yet exist.

Last week, WLF began the crypto bank approval process with Aave, one of the longest-running and most-trusted crypto lending platforms.

World Liberty has not released an official white paper or formal business plan to the public. A 400-word proposal posted to Aave’s governance forum, which is used to discuss and vote on proposed projects such as WLF, is nearly all that’s been disclosed.

Coin holders get a sort of IOU until the platform is approved and goes live. In the meantime, investment in the coin goes to the platform’s treasury.

WLF’s website adds in the fine print that Trump and his family members may receive tokens from World Liberty Financial and that they areentitled to receive significant fees for services provided to World Liberty Financial, which amount cannot yet be determined.”
