Lease deals get all the hype, but most people still want to own the car after they’re done making all those payments. If that’s you, this is your moment: not only are there a bunch of great plug-in cars available with 0% financing in August 2025, but with the federal EV tax credit set to disappear on September 30th, it could be your last chance to score these deals!

As I put these lists together, I often struggle with the best way to present this information. “Best EVs ..?” Too opinion based. “Cheapest EVs ..?” Too much research. “Best deal ..?” Too opinion based. In the end, I went with alphabetical order, by make. And, as for which deals are new this month? You’re just gonna have to check the list. Enjoy!

Acura ZDX

Acura-ZDX-EVs-donated
Acura ZDX; via Acura.

Acura’s ZDX uses GM Ultium batteries and drive motors, but the styling, interior, and infotainment software are all Honda. That means you get a solidly-built EV with GM levels of parts support and Honda levels of fit, finish, and quality control. All that plus Apple CarPlay and (through Labor Day) 0% financing for up to 72 months on remaining 2024 models makes the ZDX one the best sporty crossover values in the business.

Chevy Ultium EVs

2026-Chevy-Silverado-EV
Chevy Silverado EV; via GM.

Chevrolet is offering 0% financing for up to 60 months on all three of its Ultium-based EVs – and they’re all winners.

Not only can the Silverado EV be spec’ed up to a 10,500 lb. GVWR, making it capable enough to tow whatever horse, boat, or RV you put behind it, but it’ll go more than 1,000 miles on a single charge (if you’re not in a hurry).

On the crossover side, both the Chevy Blazer EV and Equinox EV each offer their own takes on the five-passenger family SUV, with the cost of base model Equinox LT FWD models with 319 miles of EPA-rated range dropping to just $27,500 after you apply the $7,500 Federal tax credit. Plus, existing Costco members can save up to $1,250 more on Chevy’s EVs.

Dodge Charger

Dodge Daytona Scat Pack (EV); via Stellantis.

Dodge introduced the new electric Charger as a forward-looking muscle car for enthusiasts more interested in what’s on their time slip than what’s under the hood. Those renaissance thinkers can opt for the top-shelf version the electric Charger and gain access to as much as 670 horsepower and more than 300 miles on a full charge. As for the time slip, the Scat Pack version handles that, casually rocketing you across a brightly painted line 1320 feet from where you are now in just 11.5 seconds.

To encourage more Dodge buyers to considering the switch, Stellantis is offering a $7,750 Cash Allowance or 0% financing for up to 72 months on select models.

Ford EVs

David Blenkle's 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E, used for his own car service, has surpassed more than 250,000 miles in three years, providing a real-world example of what's possible with high-milage electric vehicles.
250,000 mile Mustang Mach-E; via Ford.

The Mustang Mach-E started off as a controversial nameplate on an otherwise mainstream electric offering, but the a mid-sized, mid-priced crossover with a sporty profile and even sportier driving dynamics has built an enthusiastic fan base on the back of its proven, real-world durability.

For 2025, the Mach-E Mustangs offer more range than before (up to 320 miles), faster charging (by nearly 6 minutes to 80%), and even a hardcore rally version.

On the pickup side, the Ford F-150 Lightning is also available with 0% interest financing and $1,000 cash back. That deal gets you a capable half-ton pickup with V2X capabilities that made these trucks lifesavers in Texas’ ice storms, and a world of aftermarket support baked in. Ford Pro customers buying an F-150 Lightning for their commercial or public fleet can get even better deals on the OG electric pickup.

GMC Hummer EV

GM EV production
Hummer EV off road; via GM.

The biggest Ultium-based EVs from GM’s commercial truck brand are seriously impressive EVs that offer jaw-dropping acceleration and on-road handling that seems to defy the laws of physics. That’s especially true once you realize that these are, essentially, medium-duty trucks.

This month, GMC is doing its best to move out its existing inventory of Hummer EVs so if you’re a fan of heavy metal you’ll definitely want to stop by your local GMC dealer and give the Hummer a test drive.

Honda Prologue

GM-shift-Mexico-EV
2024 Honda Prologue Elite, via Honda.

The Honda Prologue is one of the top-selling electric crossovers this year – and it’s easy to see why. The midsize SUV is just the right size and rides on GM’s excellent Ultium platform, but adds Honda sensibilities and Apple CarPlay to create a winning combination.

To help get these rolling off Honda dealer lots before the September 30 EV tax credit deadline, Honda is offering 0% interest financing.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 + 6

Hyundai IONIQ 5 + 6; via Earnhardt Hyundai.

You might say the latest designs from Hyundai – the IONIQ 5 and 6, especially – are derivative. You’d be right, too, but Hyundai’s design team drew inspiration from ItalDesign and Porsche for these beauties, and if you weren’t around in the 1970s and 80s you probably wouldn’t call either car a copy of anything.

The 6, especially, is aerodynamically efficient, comfortable, quick, offers up to 361 miles of rangecan charge just about anywhere, and now through Labor Day, is available with 0% financing. With a Lancia Delta-inspired look and a host of modern aero tweaks, the 5 isn’t far behind, but adds the practicality of a crossover hatchback body style and cargo room to boot.

Jeep Wagoneer S

Jeep's-electric-SUV-dirty
Jeep Wagoneer S; via Stellantis.

The Jeep Wagoneer S is a slick, capable, street-oriented EV that’s been inexplicably saddled with the Wagoneer nameplate while its bigger, more off-road oriented Wagoneer stablemate powers on with ICE power. It’s a weird choice made even weirder by the sloping roof spoiler that eats away at the electric SUV’s ultimate utility (that’s the “U” part), but if you can get past those minor caveats, this first-ever battery-powered Jeep is ready to deliver.

With 0% interest for up to 72 months (before any dealer discounts) through Labor Day weekend, the Wagoneer S might just be the best Jeep deal you’re going to find this month!

Kia EV6

Kia-new-EV6-GT-interior
2025 Kia EV6; via Kia.

The Kia EV6 that made its global debut on a drag strip running alongside a Lamborghini, a Porsche, and an AMG Mercedes GT, and if it didn’t beat the pants off all of them, it sure did beat most of them. All that power and performance with a silky smooth idle, quiet early-morning startups, and a 10-year warrant with access to a nationwide dealer network?

That’s tough to beat, and now through Labor Day you’ll be able to get a world-beating Kia EV6 with 0% interest for 60 months.

Lexus RZ

Lexus RZ; via Lexus of Highland Park.

Starting at $43,975, the Lexus RZ promises up to 266 miles of EPA-rated range from a 72.8 kWh battery back in the “base” RZ300e (and 224 from the top-shelf RZ450e). With up to 308 hp and over 195 lb-ft of instant electric torque the Lexus RZ promises to be one Lexus’ more sporting offerings in any trim.

New Lexus RZ models currently in dealer inventory qualify for 0% financing for up to 72 months in some regions. Check with your local dealer.

Nissan Ariya

Ariya; via Nissan.

I’ve already said that the Nissan Ariya didn’t get a fair shake. If you click that link, you’ll read about a car that offers solid driving dynamics, innovative interior design, and all the practicality that makes five-passenger crossovers the must-haves they’ve become for most families. With up to 289 miles of EPA-rated range, Tesla Supercharger access, and 0% interest from Nissan for up to 72 months, Nissan dealers should have no trouble finding homes for these.

Subaru Soltera

Subaru's-most-discounted-car
2024 Subaru Solterra; via Subaru.

Despite being a slow seller, this mechanical twin of the Toyota bZ4X EV seems like a solid mid-size electric crossover with some additional outdoorsy vibes and granola style that offers more than enough utility to carry your mountain bike to the trail or your kayak to the river. Add in 227 miles of range, some big dealer discounts, and 0% financing for up to 72 months, and this should be a great month for electric Subaru fans to drive home in a new Solterra.

Tesla Cybertruck

Tesla Cybertruck sand
Cybertruck; via Tesla.

Demand for Tesla Cybertrucks has been a long, long way from the “conservative” 250,000 per year predictions Elon was making just a few years ago. Demand for the low-poly electric pickup is so dismal, in fact, that Tesla is offering discounts on several models, along with 0% financing on both Cybertruck and Model 3 for up to 60 months through September 1 – if you’re willing to spring for the company’s Full Self Driving (Supervised) level 2 ADAS.

Toyota bZ4X

Toyota-EV-sales-2024
2024 Toyota bZ4X Limited AWD; via Toyota.

Toyota hybrids are a hot commodity right now, and we haven’t seen any newsworthy holiday discount deals from Toyota in years. That said, the bZ4X EV might be the best deal in Toyota’s end-of-the-year lineup with big discounts on leftover bZ4X crossovers (before the “bZ” name change hits) happening now through Labor Day. What’s more, qualified buyers can score 0% financing for up to 72 months (incl. $2,500 Bonus Cash) on what is an unquestionably solid and dependable (if not quite thrilling) five-passenger electric crossover.

Volkswagen ID.4

VW-US-EVs
VW ID.4; via Volkswagen.

One of the most popular legacy brand EVs, the Volkswagen ID.4 offers Volkswagen build quality, a Chat-GPT enabled interface, and a relatively affordable base price. Factor in 170 kW DC fast charging, up to 291 miles of EPA-rated range, and a 5-star safety rating, and the ID.4 offers a value proposition that’s tough to beat.

And, through August, the only way to beat the ID.4’s 0% financing for 72 months would be to convince the bank to pay you to buy it.

Slate poaches key Tesla manufacturing leader to build its electric pickup truck

Slate Auto, a new EV startup backed by Jeff Bezos, has poached a key Tesla manufacturing leader to build its electric pickup truck factory in Indiana.

Napoleon Reyes is a US Marine from Indiana who got a degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue after leaving the force.

He then worked a few years at Subaru and Wabash before joining Tesla’s manufacturing team at the Fremont Factory in 2020.

There, he became part of the Model Y production ramp and was quickly promoted to lead the Model Y General Assembly in Fremont in 2022.

Reyes led Model Y GA, one of the most critical parts of vehicle manufacturing, for more than a year before being promoted again to lead new pilot processes at the factory.

Most recently, he led the launch of the general assembly line for the Model Y refresh.

The new engineering manager announced this week that he is leaving Tesla to join Slate:

A bit late on the post but after nearly 5 years working at Tesla in Fremont, I made the difficult decision to leave the Company and move closer to home with my family. It was an incredible experience being part of multiple line expansions and multiple Model Y program launches. Leading and managing the Model Y Refresh launch for GA in Fremont this year tested me professionally however we ultimately succeeded due to our amazing cross functional team collaboration. It’s been an absolute pleasure working with such great people, and I will forever be proud and thankful for everything we accomplished together.

I will be taking on a new role as Senior Manager, Plant Vehicle Engineering at Slate Auto in Warsaw, In.

Slate emerged from stealth mode earlier this year to unveil a new type of electric pickup truck featuring modular customization and an affordable price.

The company raised over $700 million through two rounds of investments from several different investors, including Jeff Bezos. It is currently raising more, which basically guarantees that it will be able to reach production.

The startup acquired a former printing plant in Warsaw, Indiana. It is currently converting to manufacture its electric pickup with a team from legacy automakers and also several former engineers and leaders from Tesla.

Rich Schmidt, an early Tesla manufacturing director, is the head of manufacturing.

Genesis GV90 coach door system revealed in new patent

Genesis GV90 coach door system revealed in new patent

Genesis is preparing to shake things up with its most luxurious SUV yet, the GV90. Thanks to a new patent filing, we are getting a detailed look at how its Rolls-Royce-style coach doors will work.

New patent reveals Genesis GV90 coach door system

When Genesis first unveiled the full-size SUV at the NY Auto Show last March, it wasn’t the stunning design or advanced tech that caught everyone’s attention. It was the coach doors.

Although we were worried it wouldn’t make it to the production model, like many concepts, the Genesis GV90 will be offered with coach doors.

The ultra-luxe electric SUV was first caught with coach doors earlier this year on a car carrier in South Korea. Just last month, the GV90 was spotted in California with a hinge at the rear to open the coach doors.

After several new patents were filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for new door latching devices, we are getting a sneak peek at how they are expected to work.

The patents, titled “Cinching Device For Door Latches in Vehicle,” and “Door Latch Device for Vehicles,” give a pretty detailed explanation of how the Genesis GV90’s coach doors will operate. The “Door Latch Device” uses a door striker on the lower side of the door, which is opened or closed by a hinge unit.

Unlike traditional doors, which use the B-pillar for support, the device is attached directly to the door itself, allowing for hinge-like movement.

The cinching device works in a similar way. It’s also attached to the door and part of the vehicle. However, unlike most of its kind, Genesis found a way to use a single cinching device to control multiple units. Again, the device is used for B-pillarless doors that swing open.

Genesis already said that B-pillarless coach doors are now feasible in production vehicles. The patent reveals a glimpse into how the luxury automaker could make it a reality.

Although the Genesis GV90 is expected to be offered with coach doors, they will likely not be standard. Other variants, with traditional door handles, have also been spotted testing in the US and South Korea.

Genesis is expected to launch the GV90 in mid-2026. It will be built at Hyundai’s Ulsan plant in South Korea. The flagship Genesis SUV is scheduled to debut on Hyundai’s new eM platform, which the company said will “provide 50% improvement in driving range.” It will also be loaded with the latest technology, software, connectivity, and Level 3 or higher autonomous driving capabilities.
